Letters. 1852-1874.

Thirty nine letters to his relatives in England, 1860-1874. Theodore was a prospector and quartz miner in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand, but the letters were written mainly from the Ovens River district. Three photographs of Theodore, 1904, the hut at El Dorado and cottage in Guernsey. An annotated map inscribed "Map of Victoria showing my various travels in most part of the way swagged it ..." (MC3 DR1) A cover letter from Margaret Kiddle entitled "Letters from an unsucessful gold digger" and a letter from Mrs A.R. Jones, a niece of Theodore Wood. Also four letters by Edwin Wood, Theodore's brother, to his relatives in England, giving his impressions of Melbourne shortly after his arrival, 1852. Material is in 6 folders. (Microfilm at MSM 58).
